On May 24, 1780, during the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Connecticut Farms (also known as the Battle of Springfield) took place in New Jersey. The British army, under the command of General Wilhelm von Knyphausen, attacked and burned the town of Connecticut Farms (now known as Union Township) before advancing toward Springfield.
The American forces, led by General Nathanael Greene, engaged the British in a fierce battle that lasted several hours. Despite being outnumbered, the Americans managed to repel the British advance and force them to retreat. The battle was a significant victory for the American forces, as it prevented the British from advancing further into New Jersey and helped to boost morale among the American troops.
